This DIY gold wall art is brought to you courtesy of my sister’s new couch! Speaking of which, if there’s any such things a couch envy, I totally have it. It’s from Lovesac and it’s AMAZING. So jealous.
Anyway, these wooden rods were holding the cushions down under the sections of the couch. Of course I couldn’t just throw them away…they are nice, quality pieces of wood! Since we’re still in the process of putting the finishing touches on our living room update and lacking any artwork, I made it my goal to figure out a way to use them as some type of wall art.
Next up, I arranged them in the pattern I wanted and used a pencil to draw lines to make sure the pieces were put back in the proper place when gluing them down. Using the construction adhesive, Loctite, I glues each section down and laid heavy books on top to keep them in place while drying.
After 24 hours of dry time, I painted all of the dowels gold using acrylic paint. You could also easily use spray paint for this but the fumes/smell can take a long time to dissipate so I try to avoid spray paint for that reason.
Ta-da!
I could see this also looking very neat in a bold color to add a pop of color to a room but for now, I’m very happy with my gold wall art!
